apply to the emi kuriyama spirit award

Application to the emi kuriyama spirit award is free and open to artists and writers who live in, work in, and/or have a demonstrable commitment to Los Angeles County. We are offering two unrestricted grants each of $2,000 to one writer and one artist who is in a transitional moment in their life or work, and demonstrates a commitment to working with others.

Deadline:

The deadline to apply is 11:59 pm PST on April 22, 2020. Please submit all materials by then in order to be considered.

Decisions will be announced in May 2020.

Required Materials:

  • CV

  • Short statement about your work (250 words max.)

  • For artists: 6 work samples (images, media, links) and their descriptions in a PDF document

  • For writers: 8-10 page manuscript in a PDF document

  • Responses to 2 questions

    • How would you respond to the following excerpt from the introductory page of emi’s book, sashiko? (250 words max.)
